CALENDAR

MEETINGS
Unless otherwise noted, general Network meetings are held on Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30 pm at the Berkeley Unitarian Fellowship (corner of Cedar and Bonita). Agendas typically include Network news and announcements, committee reports, brief reports from attending neighborhood groups and a speaker or hands-on training.
  • February 16 — Security after a disaster: a presentation by the Berkeley Police Department

Captain Erik Upson of the Berkeley Police Department will speak on what functions the police would have after a major disaster, and therefore what we could expect from them, and how to deal with security in our own neighborhoods/housing complexes in the aftermath. He will also be answering your questions.

Note that this meeting will start at 6:30, so please come on time. Also, if this is the first meeting you are attending, plan to arrive early enough to fill out some paperwork.

Meetings are pot luck and Network members are invited to bring something small to share. Beverages are provided.

Preceded by Drop-In Mentoring, 6 pm. Come early and bring your questions and concerns to the BDPNN help/advice table in the Fellowship Hall, managed by experienced Mentoring Committee members.

  • May 17 — Topic TBA.
  • August 23 — Topic TBA.
  • November 1 — Topic TBA.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

  • Communications hands-on radio drill (dates and location TBA).
    10 am until noon

This drill will focus on using radio communications to support neighborhood disaster response. Short basic instruction will include setting up radios and communications procedures, then we will break up into groups far enough apart to practice.

If you have FRS radios, please bring them (labeled with your name and/or neighborhood group) to the drill.

Also, we are looking for folks who are experienced and comfortable with radio usage to give us a hand with those who need some help. Please let me know if you are willing to help out.

We will meet at the parking circle/turnaround at the end of Spinnaker Way (next to Caesar Chavez Park at the Bay) at 9:45 am. Take University Ave to Marina Blvd, and make a right onto Marina Blvd. Follow it past the DoubleTree hotel, then follow the bend to the left onto Spinnaker. Park wherever you can and walk west on Spinnaker to the circle.
